Sure, it is a lot of work and very time consuming, but seeing the look on faces of the people we give to is what makes it all worth while. Of course, it is a good deal to be getting stuff as well. You may not need or want all the things you get, but at least you have packages to open that other people had to wrap to sort of balance the scales.

One of the most reliable gifts is jewelry and for men it is usually a watch. That is the one piece of jewelry most men wear. The trick is to find something new and different in the maize of watches out there to select from. That is why Auguste Galan produces mechanical automatic watches. It will also be available in steel, goldtone, and bi-color derivations.

Reservist--Auguste Galan Power Reserve Collection

Automatic watches have been around for more than 50 years making the mechanical watch far more valuable and useful since it almost completely eliminates the need to wind your watch. For those people who are only used to quartz watches powered by a battery, the mechanical watch may have been unappealing because without winding, it simply did not run. Even if you wound it, you had to be sure to wind it enough to keep it running all day and then wind it before you put it away for the evening. The automatic watch generates power by motion and for most people; normal everyday activity creates enough movement to keep the watch running for up to 40 hours. In essence, your watch should still be running when you wake up the next morning. Another issue with mechanical watches was the fear of over winding. With the advent of the automatic watch, that is no longer an issue. Then there was the concern of how much power was stored in the movement and how long would the watch run. Auguste Galan now has a series of watches known as the Reservist Collection. The automatic watches all feature a power reserve indicator that displays the approximate number of hours of power stored in the movement. By reading the indicator, you can determine if you should wind the watch to generate more power if you are not going to be wearing the watch. The Reservist has the power reserve indicator at the 10 O'clock position as does the Reservist LS. The Reservist RS has the indicator at 12 O'clock. While both the Reservist LS and RS use hours as the indicator markings, the Reservist uses a Red/Green indicator, where the more in the green the hand rests, the more power in the automatic movement. The Powermark has the power reserve indicator at 6 O'clock. These indicators can be located in different positions on the dial and use various displays all to enhance the overall appearance of the watch. The key is to check the indicator from time to time as you look at your watch to be sure there is power to keep it running.Auguste Galan has 3 watches using this feature and will introduce additional models in the coming months. You can see the Reservist Collection and purchase from our authorized agent at Wide World of Watches, the specialists in automatic watches. The Tourbillion

Mechanical watches are almost 500 years old. Intricate in design, today's mechanical and automatic watches feature many complications including chronograph, moon phases, calendars, dual times and the ultimate complication, the Tourbillion.

In laymen's terms, a Tourbillion compensates for the effect on gravity. This concept was invented by the famous watchmaker Brequet because he recognized that the earth magnetic field would effect the accuracy of the movement since it is made of metal. By suspending the balance wheel and balance spring in a cage that rotates once every 60 seconds, the effect is neutralized and the accuracy remains consistent.

The cost of Tourbillion watches can often exceed $100,000 because of the difficulty and time required to produce one. Now, Augusta Galan has perfected the art of the Tourbillion and at an affordable price under $5000.

There are only 7 of these masterpiece mechanical watches remaining in inventory, and they will be sold on a first come first serve basis.
